Calcium – Milk doesn’t do anybody good.

As Roger settles into his new lifestyle and enjoying the numerous positive effects, during this episode we dive into the topic of calcium and its’ role in health. The bottom line is yes, calcium is important for bone and overall health but the source that we all thought we knew and trusted is not health promoting but rather, disease promoting.  In this ‘cheesy’ conversation we talk about the problems that the package of dairy brings and how else we can realize the benefits of getting calcium from plant sources. Anything dairy did, plants can do better. With the shift away from dairy and towards plant-based alternatives grow, you can easily find them in your local grocery stores. Look for brands like Silk, Field Roast, So Delicious, Daiya, and Tofutti to name a few. Caution, not all plant-based alternatives are the same so when in doubt, look for the least processed versions you can find. For more selection, pop by Aura Whole Foods in Fredericton and the staff will gladly show you more options to consider. Finally, it would only be fair to give you a few recipes to try if transitioning away from dairy and if cheese is something you don’t want to give up or you feel stuck as to what to replace it with. The good news is, you do not have to sacrifice taste and enjoyment with these delicious recipes for faux parmesan and no-cheese sauce delicious recipes. Dang, now I want to go make nachos.
